Q - question

Printing of the underlay map with a light background.

A - answer For display purposes, dark versions of the underlying georeferenced online map in AutoCAD are often used (in the GEOMAP command), i.e. "Esri dark grey". For printing purposes, however, the "Esri light grey" version is preferable.

Therefore, before you print your map (or project with the underlying map), you need to capture a cutout of the map in this light version. So switch your map styling to "Esri light grey" (GEOMAP > Light), capture the desired area (GEOMAPIMAGE) and then you can print your project. The displayed online map alone is not enough, it does not print.

You can find out the current state of the online map styling from the GEOMAPMODE variable (including undocumented values):

  • 0 = Map is not visible.
  • 1 = The map is displayed as a satellite image (Bing).
  • 2 = The map is displayed as a series of vector images of roads, buildings, and geographic objects (Bing).
  • 3 = The map is displayed as a satellite image overlaid with vector images of roads (Bing).
  • 4 = The map is displayed as a satellite image (Esri).
  • 5 = The map is displayed as vector images of the road network - OpenStreetMap community (Esri).
  • 6 = The map is displayed as vector images of the road network (Esri).
  • 7 = The map is displayed as stylized, light gray images of the road network (Esri).
  • 8 = The map is displayed as stylized, dark grey images of the road network (Esri).
