AutoCAD displays a red dot (ball) symbol next to my crosshair cursor - why?

This icon (badge) indicates that a macro is being recorded with the "Action recorder" feature. You can stop this recording using the ribbon Manage > Action recorder > Stop or with the command _ACTSTOP.
